Deputy smells pot, discovers large marijuana growing operation near Hemet

News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:

2012-09-26-hem12-0925-3-2.jpgAt around 12:50 p.m. on September 25th, a deputy assigned to the Hemet Sheriff’s Station was in the area of Schmidt Road and Gene Road in Sage, when he smelled a strong odor of marijuana near the 42000 block of Schmidt Road.  His investigation led him to a 3-acre parcel of land surrounded by a large fence.

A Sheriff’s helicopter arrived and confirmed the deputy’s suspicions.  As the deputy approached the location, several suspects ran from the property.  With the help of members of the Riverside Sheriff’s Department Gang Task Force and additional deputies, five suspects were apprehended.

A search of the property revealed 184 very large, mature marijuana plants, over 150 pounds of dried/finished plants and an additional 5 pounds of marijuana plants ready for sale inside a trailer on the property with items used to weigh and package the marijuana.

The estimated street value is over one million dollars.

  • Juan Rodas - 19 years
  • Bernade Ayala - 23 years
  • Bladimir Gonzalea - 22 years
  • Juan Seduardo-Hernadez - 23 years
  • Juan Miranda - 22 years

Border Patrol arrived on scene and placed immigration holds on all suspects.
