News headline from the Riverside Police Department:
Shortly before 7:00 a.m. on August 30th, officers from the Riverside Police Department responded to a residence in the 10400 block of Granger Street, in the Tyler Mall area, for an unknown trouble call. While officers were on their way, the Police Communications Center received updates that victims had been stabbed at the location.
When officers arrived, they discovered an woman and two young children suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers initiated life saving measures and personnel from the Riverside Fire Department and American Medical Response arrived and continued life saving measures. All three victims were transported to local area hospitals where they were pronounced deceased from their wounds.
The suspect’s description, as well as the description of the vehicle he fled the scene in, was received and provided to surrounding agencies. At approximately 7:10 a.m., the suspect’s vehicle was found abandoned in the area of the 91 and 15 freeway interchange.
Officers from the Corona Police Department were directed to the area the suspect was last seen and while attempting to contact the suspect an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect, who was identified as Chajon Selvin Rodriguez, 23, of Riverside, was transported to a local area hospital where he is listed in critical, but stable condition.
There was no motive reported, nor the connection between the suspect and the victims.
Detectives from the Riverside Police Department Robbery Homicide Unit along with personnel from the Forensic unit responded to the location on Granger to investigate the multiple homicide scene. The officer involved shooting that occurred in the City of Corona will be investigated by personnel from the Corona Police Department.
