Teenaged bicyclist injured in collision in Menifee

News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:

2012-08-17-map-menifee.JPGShortly after 3:00 p.m. on August 16th, officers from the Menifee Police Department responded to a call of a cyclist struck by a car at the busy intersection of Antelope Road and Newport Road in Menifee.  The cyclist was able to get up under his own power and walk to the side of the road to wait for medical personnel to arrive.

The cyclist was transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver was uninjured.

The injured cyclist was a 14-year-old boy from Menifee, who was reportedly crossing Antelope Road against a red light.  The motorist, who was listed as a resident of Lake Elsinore, was traveling on Antelope Road.  Neither the cyclist nor the motorist noticed the other until the collision occurred.

It appears the cyclist had a helmet available; however, he was reportedly not wearing it at the time of the collision.

The cyclist is listed in stable condition with serious injuries, but none are life-threatening.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to have played a role in this collision.

The investigation is continuing and anyone that may have witnessed the collision or may have further information is asked to call Officer Greg Berry at 951-210-1000.
