2012-08-07-hem12-0804-pearsongeoffrey-201234007.jpgShortly before 8:00 p.m. on August 4th, deputies from the Hemet Station responded to a call of shots fired from a residence on the 25000 block of Second Street near D Street, in the Valle Vista area of Hemet.

When deputies arrived, they found Geoffrey Pearson (pictured right), 71, shooting a handgun from his property toward the street.  Deputies surrounded Pearson’s home and attempted to get him to surrender when he suddenly began shooting at them.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau, along with the Crisis Negotiation Team, responded to the scene and assumed efforts to persuade Pearson to surrender peacefully.

Pearson surrendered at around 10:15 p.m. and was taken into custody.  He was later transported to the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning and charged with several counts of attempted murder on a peace officer.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Hemet Station at 951-971-3400.
