News headline from the Riverside Police Department:
Shortly after 2:00 a.m. on August 2nd, Riverside Police Officers responded to the area of Magnolia Avenue and Hole Avenue after reports of a subject down. Security from the Galleria at Tyler Security found a 32-year-old man, later identified as Ryan Gutierrez, unresponsive and lying in the westbound lanes of Magnolia Avenue.
Upon investigation, officers learned that Gutierrez was with a group of others in the parking lot of the 99 Cent Store at 9915 Magnolia Avenue, when a white stake bed truck came through the lot collecting shopping carts. According to witnesses, Gutierrez became involved in some type of a argument with the driver of the truck.
As the driver drove off, Gutierrez jumped onto the outside of the truck. The driver continued westbound on Magnolia Avenue with him still hanging on the driver’s side of the truck. He fell from the truck less than 1/4 mile away at the intersection of Hole Avenue and came to rest in the westbound lanes of Magnolia Avenue.
Members of the Riverside Fire Department and American Medical Response paramedics tended to the victim at the scene, who was transported to Riverside Community Hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the truck did not stop to identify himself or offer a statement as to his involvement. He remains outstanding.
Ryan Gutierrez’s city of residence has not been released pending further investigation.
Members of the department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded and investigated the collision.
Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact Detective Ken Madsen at 951-826-8723.
