Rancho Cucamonga burglar confronted by homeowner, who is an off-duty police officer

2012-08-11-map-rancho-cuc.JPGAt around 8:00 p.m. on August 6th, Rancho Cucamonga Police were advised of a residential burglary alarm in the 5500 block of Crestline Place.  While Deputies were responding, they received information that the homeowners arrived and interrupted the burglary in progress. 

The male homeowner, who was later identified as an off-duty West Covina Police Officer, made contact with the male suspect in the driveway of the home.  As the suspect attempted to flee from the scene, he struck the victim with his vehicle and the victim fired his handgun at the suspect.

The homeowner suffered moderate injuries after being hit by the car and was transported to Kaiser Hospital where he was treated and released.  The suspect was not injured.

The Investigators identified and located the vehicle and the suspect in Fontana, near Foothill Boulevard and Tokay Avenue.  The suspect was later identified as Leopoldo Rojano Pizarro, 30, of San Bernardino.

Pizarro was interviewed and later booked at West Valley Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon.  He is being held on $125,000 bail.
