Toddler strangled by cord from window shade in San Jacinto

News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. on July 2nd, officers from the San Jacinto Station responded to a juvenile in need of medical aid at an apartment in the 200 block of East Main Street in San Jacinto.  Officers arrived and found Cal-Fire personnel already on scene and providing life saving measures to a fourteen-month-old female toddler.  The toddler was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced as deceased.

According to statements taken at the scene, the mother left the toddler and a three-year-old sibling watching television on the living room couch, which was located next to a window.  The mother reportedly stepped into an adjacent room for only a few minutes and returned to find the toddler unconscious on the couch with the window coverings cord wrapped around her neck.

The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the San Jacinto Police Department at 951-654-2702.
