Shooting in Woodcrest area of Riverside leaves gunman dead

News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:

2012-07-28-map-tava-and-king.JPGShortly before midnight on July 27th, deputies from the Perris Station responded to the report of gunshots being fired in the 24600 block of Tava Lane, in the unincorporated area of Riverside County known as Woodcrest.  Deputies arrived within minutes and located Michael Rocha, 26, of Woodcrest, suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.  Rocha was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and was listed in stable condition.

Witnesses told deputies that a white male adult had arrived at the residence after an earlier argument and shot Rocha.  Witnesses also reported that Rocha’s friend, Devon Wingo, 28, of Woodcrest, had returned fire at the gunman immediately after Rocha was shot.

Deputies searched the route the gunman fled in and located Brandon Nace, 30, also of Woodcrest, suffering from gunshot wounds a short distance away from the initial shooting scene.  Nace had died from his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Deputies determined that Nace was the gunman who shot Rocha and then fled.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Investigator Jason Corey at 951-955-2777, or Investigator Tom Salisbury at 951-210-1000, or anonymously www.riversidesheriff.org/tipline/
