Redlands pedestrian injured after being hit by low-speed car

News headline from the Redlands Police Department:

2012-07-03-map-redlands.JPGA 51-year-old Redlands man was injured Sunday when he was struck by a car while crossing the street in the area of Judson Street and Colton Avenue, near the University of Redlands campus.

A 2002 Saturn 4-door, driven by a 28-year-old Redlands man, was traveling west on Colton Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. on July 1st.  The driver came to a stop at Judson Street before proceeding through the intersection.  He told police the sun was in his eyes and he did not see the pedestrian in the intersection.  The vehicle was traveling between 5 and 10 mph when it struck the victim.  The man hit the windshield and the vehicle continued for about 30 feet before it came to a stop and the victim fell from the vehicle.

Redlands Fire Department paramedics responded and treated the victim before he was transported to the hospital with a broken leg and moderate injuries to his head and arms.

No further information is available on the victim’s condition.  The accident is under investigation by Redlands Police.
