Parolee arrested in Norco after foot chase and trying to harm Sheriff’s K9

2012-07-09-jvs12-0709-2-saltercorey.jpgAt around 1:30 p.m. on July 9th, the Community Oriented Policing Team deputies from the Jurupa Valley Station in Norco responded to the area of Shadow Canyon Circle and Norco Drive concerning a suspicious person.  The suspect, identified as a parolee at large and a suspect wanted in connection with a felony domestic violence investigation, ran into the Santa Ana river bed to elude capture.

The Sheriff’s K9 was deployed into the river bed and picked up the suspect’s scent.  The Sheriff’s K9 tracked the suspect deep into the riverbed where he was hiding in thick vegetation.

The suspect attempted to injure the Sheriff’s K9 by trying to puncture the dog’s eyes with his fingers, however, was unsuccessful in hurting the dog and was subsequently taken into custody.

The suspect, identified as Corey Salter (pictured right), 29, of Norco, was arrested for a parole violation, possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine, felony domestic violence, attempting to injure a police service dog, being under the influence of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.  Slater was transported to the hospital for injuries and was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.
