News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:
At around 2:44 a.m. on July 17th, a deputy from Jurupa Valley responded to the 9300 block of 54th Street in Jurupa Valley after a report of a suspicious vehicle. As the deputy began to approach the vehicle, a Ford F350 truck with a trailer, the vehicle accelerated at the deputy and then fled.
The deputy was able to avoid being hit by the vehicle and was in pursuit of the truck, which was found to be reported stolen out of Los Angeles.
A short time later, the vehicle crashed into a fence and parked cars at 51st Street and Cedar, causing it to become disabled.
The suspect fled on foot into the neighborhood. After a lengthy search the suspect was found hiding in a tree line.
The stolen vehicle was recovered. The deputy was not injured.
The suspect was identified as Cutzberto Acuna, 38, of Riverside. Acuna was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, felony evading, and violation of probation, and was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center.
