Will Coachella music festival leave Indio for another city?

Is the Coachella Music and Arts Festival looking for a new home?  The group behind the event isn’t too hip on a new tax that has been discussed by the Indio City Council.

The measure would need voter approval, but if passed it would impose a per-ticket tax on events drawing over 2,500 people.

For Coachella and Stagecoach the tax would generate six-million dollars in revenue for Indio.  It’s enough money for event organizers to suggest that they are willing to take their festival to another city in Southern California.

The tax debate is ongoing, and for now Coachella will continue to be held at the Empire Polo Club.

In 2012 the Coachella festival added an extra weekend and tickets sold quickly.
