Riverside County deputies have identified the body of a Lake Elsinore man who had been reported missing in June.
Leopoldo Navarrete, 58, of Lake Elsinore, was reported missing by family members on June 14th.
The investigation indicated that Navarrete may have been the victim of foul play. The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was summoned and worked with Lake Elsinore Police detectives to further investigate the matter.
During the course of this investigation, several searches for Navarrete were conducted using the Sheriff’s Aviation by air, the Sheriff’s Dive Team within the waters of Lake Elsinore, and by the use of detectives, investigators and volunteers in several other areas.
On July 19th, the body of a deceased male was located in the area of Akley Street and Gillette Street, in the unincorporated area of Lake Elsinore commonly referred to as Lakeland Village. Evidence showed the male was the victim of a homicide. The decedent was later positively identified as Leopoldo Navarrete.
