In an announcement from Rusty Bailey’s campaign team, twice-elected Riverside City Councilmember and former mayoral candidate Mike Gardner (pictured below right) endorsed Rusty Bailey for Riverside Mayor today.
“I have worked with Rusty Bailey for several years on the City Council. His balanced approach, willingness to listen and collaborative nature makes him my choice for Mayor,” said Gardner. “I look forward to serving under his leadership.”
Rusty Bailey (pictured above right) finished first, among seven candidates, in the June 5th election with almost 33% of the vote. Councilmember Gardner finished third, netting over 16%.
Bailey will face Ed Adkison in a November run-off election.
“I am humbled to have the support of Councilmember Gardner,” stated Bailey. “I respected Mike’s wisdom and candor on the campaign trail and I look forward to his counsel as our campaign moves toward November. We share a vision for a better Riverside and I am honored to have his support.”
The Bailey campaign continues to pick up momentum from the first place showing last week. As the front-runner in the race for Mayor, Bailey has seen a large number of people join his campaign and offer support in the past week.
Rusty Bailey, a government teacher at Poly High School and member of the Riverside City Council, lives in the Magnolia Center neighborhood of Riverside with his wife Judy, a former elementary and middle school teacher, and his two daughters: Elizabeth, 9, and Julia, 5.
