News headline from Riverside Parks & Recreation:
The Riverside Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department invites all Riversiders to the grand opening ceremony of Doty-Trust Park on Saturday, June 9th, at 10:00 a.m.
Refreshments will be provided.
The Doty-Trust Park is located at the intersection of Golden and Campbell Avenues, in the La Sierra area of Riverside. It was called Golden Park until 2006, when it was renamed to honor two Riverside police officers killed in the line of duty. Dennis C. Doty and Phillip N. Trust (pictured right) were shot in 1982 as they tried to serve a warrant in a bank robbery case.
The park is just over 21 acres. Nearly 15 acres will be developed with neighborhood park amenities and will include a remembrance to the two fallen Riverside Police Officers. Other park improvements include trail connections to
existing trails in the natural open space portion of the park, playgrounds, a water-play feature, basketball courts, open turf area, picnic tables and shelters, walking and jogging pathways, and lighted park walks.
The remaining 6 acres falls on steep and rugged terrain, well-suited to remain as natural open space.
