The K-9 fundraiser will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 14th, at Chili’s, located at 10020 Alabama Street in Redlands.

A portion of all proceeds from food sales that day will be donated to the program.

In December 2008, the department began its drug-sniffing canine program with Radar, a black Labrador mix, and his handler, Redlands Police Officer Dan Figgins, using only private donations.  Since that time Radar’s ongoing training, food, medical costs, lodging and grooming have been supported entirely by private donations with no cost to the City’s General Fund.

Redlands Police narcotics officers frequently call on Radar and will make him available to other local agencies.  Radar also provides regular service to local schools through a contract with the Redlands Unified School District.

Since 2008, Radar has helped in the interdiction and recovery of more than 50 kilos of methamphetamine, 20 kilos of cocaine, hundreds of pounds of marijuana and over $634,000 in drug-related money.  Radar will soon be retired as a working police canine.

The Redlands Police Department has acquired a new canine, a 3-year-old chocolate Labrador named Kass.  Kass has been fully trained as an odor narcotic detection dog and will now attend a three-week course to train him to work with his new partner, Officer Patrick Estrada.

The Redlands Police Department also accepts direct donations to the canine program.  Contact your tax professional to determine if your donation is tax deductible.  Donations may be made out to the City of Redlands, attention Police Canine Fund, tax ID number 95-6000766. For further information about direct donations, contact Officer Dan Figgins at 909-557-6743 or by email at dfiggins@redlandspolice.org or Officer Patrick Estrada at 909-647-7872 or by email at pestrada@redlandspolice.org
