News headline from the Chino Police Department:
Over the last several months, copper wire running underground used to power several street lights throughout the community has been stolen. Officers suspect the wiring is being sold for scrap.
There are more than 3,000 City owned street lights scattered throughout the community located in residential and industrial areas, as well as in public parks. Over the last 11 months, 20 repairs have already taken place and an additional four repairs are pending. These repairs come at a cost of $52,000.
It is suspected that the thefts are taking place at night, but police are asking for reports of any suspicious activity taking place around light poles day or night. If a series of street lights are out in an area, or anyone with information regarding these crimes, please contact the Chino Police Department at 909-628-1234.
