News headline from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department:
At around 8:30 a.m. on June 3rd, deputies received a LoJack stolen vehicle alert in the area of Sterling Avenue and Citrus Street in San Bernardino.
Deputies tracked and located the vehicle traveling west on 40th Street, and followed the stolen vehicle while awaiting back-up officers to arrive.
The vehicle abruptly pulled over to the shoulder, then sped away leading deputies on a pursuit through residential neighborhoods with speeds exceeding 80 miles per hour. During the pursuit the suspect and passenger jumped out of the vehicle and the vehicle then careened into a fire hydrant near Waterman Avenue and 40th Street.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested. The passenger fled and was not located after an extensive search.
Christopher Jackson, 31, was booked at Central Jail for evading, possession of a stolen vehicle and stolen property. He is being held on $100,000 bail. Jackson was recently released and was on supervised probation at the time of his arrest.
