Jean Evelyn (Bradley) Rutherford, age 84, died peacefully in her Banning home on June 18, 2012. She died surrounded by her family and their love. Jean was born in Brigg, Lincolnshire, England on October 1, 1927 the oldest of five to Horace and Marjorie Bradley.
She married Clayton Rutherford almost 65 years ago on September 20, 1947. A dedicated mom to her three children, Jean provided a nest of security that propelled her children into the world, each finding success in their unique ways. A woman of faith, she was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal church for more than 60 years.
Jean loved her role as a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother with 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her kitchen was always open for eggs and bacon or a pastrami sandwich. Birthday parties were always graced with one of her famous chocolate cakes, and she never missed a year to make her apricot jam.
She was an excellent seamstress and cook. She was a nurturer by heart and in her final days her home was filled with voices of the generations providing a loving bridge to her ancestors. Jean was a strong woman, with a beautiful heart.
She is survived by her husband Clayton; her children: Richard Rutherford, Janet Mendoza, and Sheila Wenzel; her son-in-laws Gilbert and Robert; her daughter-in-laws Lisa and Gina; her grandchildren: Gil, Mindy, Jesse, Gabriel, Michael, Lucy and Gillian as well as her fourteen great-grandchildren.
In her death she is joining her first son, Baby Boy Rutherford who died shortly after birth, her parents, two siblings, and other loved ones.
Memorial service Tuesday June 26th at 11am at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church with luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the Little Bronco’s Foundation (Bank of Hemet, 1540 East 6th St. # C, Beaumont, CA) or Charter Hospice of Colton (1012 E. Cooley Dr. Suite G, Colton, CA 92324) Arrangements entrusted to Weaver Mortuary, Beaumont, CA 951-845-1141.
