Missing hiker found dead in Joshua Tree National Park

News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. on June 6th, deputies from the Thermal Station responded to a report of a missing hiker in the Jumbo Rock Campground area of the Joshua Tree National Park.

Park rangers, search and rescue personnel, and a CHP helicopter searched the area for the hiker.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m., search and rescue members located a deceased hiker in the area.  The hiker’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.  Later reports are that the victim was a 41-year-old Canadian man from Victoria, British Columbia.
