News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:
At around 9:45 p.m. on June 2nd, officers from the Palm Desert Police Department responded to the intersection of Fred Waring Drive and Bryson Court in reference to a major injury traffic collision.
Gerald Weiss, 52, of Palm Desert was struck from behind while riding his bicycle and died at the scene.
The investigation revealed that the bicyclist was struck by a 2003 Chrysler Sebring driven by Christopher Eugene Stocman, 24, of La Quinta. The investigation also showed that Stocman had been driving while under the influence of alcohol when the collision occurred.
Christopher Stocman was arrested for DUI and vehicular manslaughter, and later booked at the jail in Indio.
