Armed suspects arrested after attempted daytime burglary in Menifee

News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:

At around 2:00 p.m. on June 26th, officers from the Menifee Police Department responded to the 28400 block of Secret Harbor Drive in Menifee in reference to a reported attempted residential burglary in-progress.  The neighborhood is near Sunrise Park, near Menifee Road and Simpson Road.

Four black males, two adults and two juveniles, armed with a handgun attempted to force entry through the front door of an occupied residence.  A witness saw this going on and notified the Menifee Police Department.  After several unsuccessful attempts to enter the residence through the front door, the suspects entered the backyard of the residence and attempted to force open a downstairs back window.

All four suspects ran off before getting into the house.  A perimeter was established by responding deputies and the assistance of the Sheriff Department’s helicopter was requested.  An officer saw the suspects leaving the area in a vehicle and detained them.

During a search of the vehicle, a handgun and several items suspected to be stolen were located.

Rodney Jeter, 19, of Hemet, and Keith Woods, 18, also from Hemet, were booked at Riverside County Jail.  The two juveniles were also arrested and booked at Riverside County Juvenile Hall.  All suspects were charged with attempted burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and possession of a firearm.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Menifee Police Department at 951-210-1000.
