News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:
The second suspect in a French Valley home invasion robbery in May was arrested Thursday night after a pursuit on the westbound I-10 freeway from Indio to Banning. CHP officers were finally able to stop the vehicle by using spike strips and then trapping his vehicle.
On May 16th, deputies and investigators responded to a home invasion robbery in the 36800 block of Hidden Trail Court in French Valley. The homeowner and her friend had arrived home and went inside, where they were confronted by two masked men armed with pepper spray and a pistol. Both victims were pepper sprayed and tied up, and one of the victims was struck with the pistol. The suspects robbed the victims of an undisclosed amount of cash and other valuables and then fled.
Officers immediately located one of the suspects and arrested him. The second suspect was identified, but investigators had not been able to locate him.
On June 7th, Southwest Station investigators learned the remaining suspect was in Blythe. As they were eastbound on their way to Blythe at about 7:00 p.m., they saw the suspect vehicle driving westbound on the I-10 Freeway near Washington Avenue in Indio. The investigators contacted the Thermal Station to stop the suspect vehicle. However, the suspect vehicle refused to stop for the marked patrol cars and fled westbound on the I-10 Freeway.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit and were finally able to stop the suspect vehicle at the I-10 Freeway and Sunset Avenue in Banning with the use of spike strips, and by boxing in the vehicle.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident. No one was injured, and no property was damaged.
The suspect, Donovan Marcus Cavin (pictured right), 34, of Anaheim, was booked into the Southwest Station for the home invasion robbery and for evading police.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with further information is asked to contact Investigator Gorlicki at 951-696-3000.
