News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:
At around 6:20 p.m. on May 5th, officers from the Perris Police Department were dispatched to the 1700 block of El Nido Road in Perris in response to a reported injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian.
Deputies arrived within minutes and located the traffic collision on El Nido, north of Nuevo Boulevard.
The Perris Sheriff’s Station Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and assumed the investigation.
The preliminary investigation revealed a Honda Accord was traveling northbound on El Nido Road. The Honda struck a child, a 2-½-year-old girl, who had run into the street.
The driver of the Honda was uninjured. The driver’s identity was not released.
The toddler was transported to Riverside County Regional Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition. Her identity has not been released.
Investigators determined that alcohol was not a factor in this collision.
