Suspect caught in stolen vehicle after home robbery and assault in Big Bear Lake

News headline from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department:

At around 5:15 p.m. on April 30th, Deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a reported residential robbery in the 500 block of Alden Road in Big Bear Lake.

Through investigation, deputies identified the suspect as Michael Wiederhoeft, 34.  He had forced entry into the residence and physically assaulted the victim, threatened him with a knife, demanded money and jewelry, and stole the victim’s vehicle. 

During the altercation, the victim suffered minor injuries, but denied any need for medical aid.

Deputies apprehended Wiederhoeft in the victim’s vehicle on Highway 330 at mile marker 37.12 (near the lower passing lane).  The victim’s vehicle and personal property was recovered.

Wiederhoeft was booked on felony charges of robbery, burglary, and automobile theft and remains in custody at the West Valley Detention Center where he is being held on $200,000.00 bail.
