News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:
At around 2:30 a.m. on May 20th, officers from the Coachella Police Department responded to the area of Calle Bonita and Calle Ninos in Thermal regarding a stolen vehicle. They located the vehicle parked along the curb, with two tires missing. Two Hispanic men were found in the area, one was detained by officers and the other fled.
Further investigation located a “Chop Shop” (where stolen automobiles are disassembled for the purpose of selling them as parts) in the backyard of a residence in the 53000 block of Calle Bonita, and several vehicles in varying states of disassembly were found.
The investigation is still unfolding, but at least one other confirmed stolen vehicle was recovered that had been stripped of parts.
The Riverside Auto Theft Interdiction Detail (RAID) responded to the location and assisted in the investigation.
The officers arrested Abel Salome, 28, of Coachella and he was booked at the Riverside County Jail in Indio on various felony charges.
The second suspect is still outstanding. He is described as a Hispanic male in his 20’s and was wearing dark clothing.
