A motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries on Thursday afternoon near Walmart in Lake Elsinore when a mid-size SUV reportedly turned left into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
At 2:46 p.m. on May 17th, Lake Elsinore Police officers were dispatched to a major injury collision between a motorcycle and SUV on Grape Street, approximately ½ mile south of Railroad Canyon Drive.
Officers arrived a few minutes later and located the victim in the roadway being treated by paramedics from Cal Fire. The motorcyclist suffered major injuries and died at the scene. The motorcyclist’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the vehicle who struck the motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital for undisclosed injuries.
The preliminary investigation shows that the motorcyclist was traveling northbound in the number two lane of Grape Street, approaching the Walmart Shopping Center. The driver of a mid-sized sport utility vehicle turned left into the path of the motorcyclist, who then struck the rear passenger side of the SUV, sustaining fatal injuries.
The road was closed for the investigation across all northbound lanes until around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday night.

An updated report has identified the motorcyclist as Nicholas Soltz, 47, of Wildomar.
