Maria Cortez Serrato passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family May 14, 2012 at the beautiful age of 91 years of age. Maria was born September 1st, 1920 in Corona, CA to Jose and Saturnina Serrato.
Maria attended Washington Elementary School in Corona before moving to Acuitzeramo Michuacan, Mexico in the 1930s due to the depression. Maria was the oldest sibling and loved her brothers and sisters, Bernave (RIP), Eloisa (RIP), Agustin, Anastacio, Ernesto, Roberto (RIP), and Consuelo Serrato, all from Corona and Michuacan.
Maria married Jesus Cortez and they had 6 children which she loved more than anything in this world, Lilia Cortez (Miguel, RIP), Danaly Montejano (Amador, RIP), Maria Del Carmen Marron (Jose), Gonzalo Cortez (Ana Rosa) and Jesus Chuy Cortez (Angel) and Graciela Cortez (RIP), all of Corona, CA.
Maria was a special and classy lady who loved her house clean and her carne asada well done. Maria loved to get dressed up for all special occasions because she knew her 5 kids or 21 grandchildren or her 26 great grandchildren and/or even her 3 great-great grandchildren would come visit her to wish her the best.
Maria was the root of our family tree, she was the reason we all came together in one place at the same time, no matter how rough the times were we always knew we had Maria to tell us a story to help us forget about the hard times.
We will miss you and we will never forget you, La queremos mucho MI ABUELITA MARIA.
