Lake Street closed for several hours after high speed rollover crash in Lake Elsinore

News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:

A man is reportedly in grave condition after a high speed rollover crash on Lake Street in Lake Elsinore on Monday night.

At around 10:00 p.m. on May 28th, Lake Elsinore Police officers were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover collision with major injuries on Lake Street, approximately one-half mile east of Nichols Road.

Responding officers arrived within a few minutes and located the driver trapped in his vehicle, suffering from a major head injury.  The driver was freed from the vehicle by Cal Fire and transported to Inland Valley Medical Center.

The driver suffered a massive skull fracture and is in grave condition.  His identity has not been released.

The preliminary investigation shows that the driver was traveling west on Lake Street at a high rate of speed.  He apparently lost control of the vehicle, crossed over into oncoming lanes, struck a dirt embankment and a tree, then rolled several times before coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of travel.

The roadway was closed for several hours during the accident investigation across all lanes.

Anyone with further information about this collision is asked to contact the Lake Elsinore Police Department at 951-245-3300 or 951-776-1099.
