Laguna Beach hiker safely rescued from Cleveland National Forest near Corona

News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:

Shortly after 1:00 p.m. on May 28th, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department received a report that a hiker had become lost in the Cleveland National Forest, south of Corona.  The hiker was identified as Kevin Meehan, 61, of Laguna Beach.

According to Meehan, he became disoriented after accidentally separating from the rest of his hiking party.  Meehan was advised to stay at his location and wait for rescue personnel to respond to him.

Members of the Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit and the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team arrived on scene and began coordinating rescue efforts.   Rescue personnel remained in contact with the lost hiker via their cellular telephone.

At around 8:15 p.m., rescue personnel located the hiker and escorted him safely out of the area.

The hiker was evaluated and treated by Cal-Fire personnel for minor abrasions he sustained during the hike.
