Four arrested in Jurupa Valley after residential alarm notifies police of burglary in progress

News headline from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:

A residential alarm in Jurupa Valley notified police of a burglary in progress on Wednesday morning, enabling them to capture and arrest four suspects who were later found to be connected to several other burglaries.

At around 8:00 a.m. on May 23rd, deputies from Jurupa Valley responded to a burglary alarm in the 5100 block of Contay Way.  Upon arrival, a suspect was observed in the backyard of the residence and additional subjects were believed to be inside the residence.

The suspect fled on foot and evaded capture.  A perimeter was established and an extensive search of the area was conducted.

While deputies were searching the surrounding area for the suspect, a suspicious vehicle was seen driving through the neighborhood.  The vehicle was stopped and the three occupants were determined to be involved in the burglary.

Deputies obtained additional information that led to the search of a residence and vehicle in 5200 block of Holstein Street and a residence in the 3900 block of Driving Range Road.  During this follow-up investigation, stolen property was located that connected the suspects to additional previously reported residential burglaries.

As a result of this investigation, these three suspects were identified as members of a local criminal street gang and taken into custody for theft-related charges.  These three suspects (pictured below, left to right) were identified as David Cornejo, 25; Alexis Lopez, 18; and Raul Ruelaz, 18.  All are residents of Jurupa Valley.

The fourth suspect who had escaped, was identified as Gilbert Carmelo Flores (pictured below, far right), 23, of Riverside.  He captured at around 7:00 that evening, apprehended outside of his home in the 4000 block of Park View Terrace in Riverside.  Deputies recovered stolen property from inside of the suspect’s home.  He was arrested and booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.

All four suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and committing a felony in association with a criminal street gang.  Cornejo, Lopez, and Flores were also charged with possession of stolen property.  Cornejo received an additional charge of violation of probation.

The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Deputy T. Curry or B. Holmes at 951-955-2600.
