News headline from the Riverside Police Department:
A man suffering from apparent head injuries was found in a field by horseback riders early Sunday morning in the La Sierra area of Riverside.
Shortly before 6:00 a.m. on May 13th, a 9-1-1 call was received by the Riverside Police Department Communications Division in regards to a man found in an open field near the north end of Jones Street, in the La Sierra Acres neighborhood near Norte Vista High School in Riverside.
The 31-year-old man was suffering from a blunt force trauma injury to his head. A couple of horseback riders discovered the man and called for help.
Riverside Fire Department and American Medical Response treated the victim at the scene and transported him by ambulance to Riverside Community Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition in the ICU.
Detectives from the Robbery/Homicide Unit and a technician from the Forensic Unit responded and are currently investigating, including interviews with witnesses and investigating the crime scene.
The victim’s identity is not being released at this time until family members can be located and notified.
