Announcement from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department:
The Palm Desert Police Department conducted a DUI/Driver’s License Safety Checkpoint on April 28th as part of their commitment to public safety. This checkpoint was one of many that have been or will be conducted throughout the year in the City of Palm Desert.
The location of Saturday’s checkpoint was on Monterey Avenue, south of Magnesia Falls.
The goal of the DUI Checkpoint was removing unlicensed or impaired drivers and to bring awareness to the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
829 vehicles passed through the checkpoint.
- 829 drivers were contacted, with 699 being screened.
- 25 field sobriety tests given.
- 4 DUI suspects were arrested.
- 7 vehicles were impounded.
- 4 unlicensed and suspended drivers.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
