Driver arrested for DUI after mowing down traffic sign and hitting palm tree in Palm Desert

A suspected drunk driver was arrested in the early morning hours on Saturday after losing control of her vehicle on Highway 74 in Palm Desert.

On March 17 at about 1:40 a.m., the Palm Desert Police Department responded to a reported traffic collision on Highway 74 south of Highway 111.

Zoila Guadalupe Vallegarcia, 30, of Desert Hot Springs, was northbound on Highway 74 and hit the east curb, causing her to lose control of the vehicle.

The vehicle then struck the center median knocking down a directional sign and then colliding with a palm tree on the west curb before coming to rest in the southbound lanes.

Vallegarcia was subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI.
