2012-02-29-xeriscape_nl.jpgUCR Extension is offering a class this weekend in Xeriscape Design for the Home Gardener at the UCR Extension Center, located at 1200 University Avenue, between Iowa Avenue and the 60/215 freeway.

The class is being taught by Landscape Designer Susan L. Frommer, of Menifee Valley, who has been in the nursery business for 15 years.

Xeriscape landscaping has become more popular as water conservation has become more of an issue.

The class will provide basic concepts of garden design, with special attention to preventing future maintenance problems, and emphasis on selection of plants suitable for our inland climate to create a beautiful garden with minimal homeowner maintenance.

The class will consist of two meetings.  The first is Thursday, March 1, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., and the second meeting is Saturday, March 3, from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

The fee is $65 (or $55 each for couples and family members attending together) , which includes parking.
