Riverside police are investigating the shooting of a student from Poly High School. It happened Thursday night while Larenze Simmons, 14, was walking home after visiting a friend. He lived with his grandmother in a well-maintained neighborhood in Riverside’s Eastside.
Larenze Simmons was a member of the ROTC and not involved with gang activity, according to police. As of Friday, if detectives had solid leads in the shooting, they were not being revealed.
The teenager was shot in the head, and family member say they expect he will be taken off of life support sometime soon.
“There isn’t any blood flow to the brain, because that’s where he was shot,” said Zion Shephard, Simmons’ niece.
Information received at the scene indicates that a vehicle drove up to the location and a man got out of the vehicle. He then fired approximately 5-6 rounds at the victim, striking Simmons.
Homicide Investigators responded and were assisted in their investigation by personnel from the Forensic Unit.
Anyone with information pertaining to this shooting should contact Detective Ron Sanfilippo at 951-353-7105, or Detective Mike Medici at 951-353-7104.
