Chase of armed parolee in Riverside leads to officer involved shooting

News headline from the Riverside Police Department:

At about 3:30 a.m. on February 22, two uniformed Riverside police officers in a marked police car stopped a vehicle at University Avenue and Sedgwick Avenue in Riverside’s Eastside neighborhood.

The male passenger jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.

The two officers chased the suspect a short distance from the vehicle and the suspect was taken into custody after an officer involved shooting.

The suspect, identified as Rudy Ray Casioce, 25, of Riverside, was not struck by the gunfire.  No one was injured as a result of the shooting.

The investigation revealed the suspect, a parolee, was in possession of a handgun during this incident.

Casioce was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, felon in possession of a firearm, and violation of parole.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be filed.  He will be booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
