News headline from the Riverside Police Department:
A pedestrian was killed on Friday afternoon when a truck swerved onto the shoulder to avoid hitting another vehicle.
On February 24 at about 12:29 p.m., Riverside Police Officers responded to the area of Arlington Avenue, west of Fairhaven Drive, to investigate reports of a major injury traffic collision.
Upon arrival the officers discovered a full-size Dodge truck had struck a woman who had been walking on the shoulder.
The Dodge truck was traveling eastbound on Arlington Avenue when the driver had to swerve to the right to avoid a black truck. The unidentified black truck had crossed the double yellow lines from the opposing westbound lane.
As a result, the Dodge left the roadway and struck the female pedestrian, who was walking eastbound along the south dirt shoulder of Arlington Ave.
Riverside Fire and AMR paramedics responded and treated the pedestrian, who suffered head trauma. She was transported to Riverside Community Hospital where she died from her injuries.
The victim has been identified as Carmen Pineda, 37, of Riverside.
