Church and cemetery vandalism reported at St. Catherine’s in Temecula; no suspects identified

On January 12, officers from the Temecula Police Department investigated a call reporting past vandalism at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Church located at 41875 C Street in Temecula.

Their investigation revealed that on January 11 at about 10:30 p.m., three suspects entered the church grounds and removed a bench from an entryway, throwing it into a fountain, damaging both the bench and the fountain.

They also threw a trash can into the fountain and broke several light fixtures and damaged several plants.

On January 16 at about 8:00 a.m., officers returned to the church in response to a second report of vandalism at the church.

That investigation revealed that sometime between the afternoon of January 15 and the morning of January 16, several suspects entered the church grounds.  They placed a Bible in front of the main entry way to the church and set it on fire.

They also broke a ceramic ashtray and a plastic garbage can.

While investigating the vandalism at the church, officers learned of another vandalism case in the cemetery next door to the church, where suspects overturned and/or broke several tombstones in the cemetery, and knocked over several vases of flowers.

No suspects have been identified.

The investigation regarding these cases is ongoing.  Anyone with information regarding these incidents is encouraged to contact Investigator Devine at the Temecula Police Department at 951-696-3000.
