On Friday, January 13 at around 4:00 p.m. a patrol deputy from the Lake Elsinore Station observed a silver Honda Civic on a dirt access road in the area of Cox Street and Ellis Road, in the unincorporated area known as Good Hope.
The driver of the Honda made an abrupt turn as if trying to avoid being seen by the deputy. The deputy located the vehicle abandoned with a flat tire on the dirt road and detained Jack Dean Everhart, 34, of Hemet, for further investigation.
About that same time, a victim called dispatch to report the above-mentioned silver Honda stolen from a nearby shopping mall in the 29300 block of Central Avenue in Lake Elsinore.
The investigation revealed the car was stolen from the shopping mall and driven to the Good Hope area, where the custom wheels were removed and replaced with spare tires and wheels.
The custom wheels were recovered nearby.
The vehicle and the custom wheels were returned to the victim.
Everhart was booked into the Southwest Detention Center for Auto Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Commit a Felony while on Bail, and Violation of Probation.
Anyone with further information about this incident, or any other criminal activity in Lake Elsinore is encouraged to contact the Lake Elsinore Police Department at 951-245-3300 or 951-776-1099 after hours and on weekends.
