Richard “Jack” Ray Britton age 89, of Riverside, CA, formerly of Toledo, OH, passed away on January 19, 2012 following a stroke. “Jack” was born September 6, 1922 in Meeker, OH to Rodney and Lillian (Hatcher) Britton.
He was loved by family and friends who admired his kind, honest nature and his passion for life. He worked in construction his entire life. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, having served in WWII as a medic in the Navy and Marines.
At the age of 50 he began running and competed in numerous marathons. As an avid bicyclist he bicycled across the country and was a member of the Riverside Bicycle Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances (Pelton) Britton, his son, Jack C. Britton, and three grandchildren, Adam, Seth and Carlee Rumsey.
He is survived by three daughters, Christine (Rinold “Rick”) Burkhart of Maumee, OH, Linda Rumsey of Orlando, FL, and Brenda Hagood of Salinas, CA; four grandchildren, Rinold “Ron” Burkhart, Andrea (Burkhart) Kleve, Ashley and Alyssa Hagood, and six great-grandchildren, Jane, Ryan, and Max Burkhart, Kathleen and Jack Kleve, and Shelby Rumsey.
Tributes in Jack’s memory may be made to The American Heart Association . Visitation will be Thursday, January 26, from 5-8 pm at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park, 11500 Arlington Avenue, Riverside, CA with the funeral service on Friday, January 27, at 10 am. Graveside services will follow.
