NBC Universal reportedly has taken a liking to Ryan Seacrest, so much that the broadcast network might like to become the new Matt Lauer, provided Lauer departs the “Today” show.  This is all part of wide speculation from various sources.

“American Idol” is prepping for its 11th season on Fox and Seacrest does not have a deal inked beyond the upcoming round of shows.

The “American Idol” bench includes Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson.

“American Idol” returns on January 18, with Seacrest.
