It’s hard to believe. January 14, 2012 would have been blues/rock singer-songwriter Janis Joplin’s 69th birthday.
The video at the right takes a look at the life and career of Janis Joplin, a middle-class white girl who sang the blues. Her music and legacy still inspire people to this day.
She was not only one of rock’s most unique voices, but she also held her own during the 1960’s era of rock music — well-known to be male-dominated, especially at that time.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas on January 14, 1943, Joplin died of a drug overdose in Los Angeles, California on October 4, 1970.
