Blues legend Etta James has died, according to her personal doctor Elaine James, no relation.
The performer had been gravely ill. James, a Riverside resident for many years, was hospitalized several times during the past few months, due to ongoing complications related to leukemia.
James has maintained a low public profile in recent years, partly due to health problems, and because she was able to work from a recording studio built in her Riverside home.
When at home she has been under the care of a live-in doctor.
