As the third show of their 2011-2012 season, Performance Riverside presents My Fair Lady at RCC’s Landis Performing Arts Center, 4800 Magnolia Avenue in Riverside.
The show is based on George Bernard Shaw’s play and Gabriel Pascal’s movie, “Pygmalion,” with book, music and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe.
In 1993, the New York Times noted that My Fair Lady is, arguably, “the perfect musical”. The score boasts some of the finest numbers ever created for the stage: “With a Little Bit of Luck,” “The Rain in Spain,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “On the Street Where You Live,” “Get Me to the Church on Time,” “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face” and Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?”
The 1964 film adaptation, directed by George Cukor, starred Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn and won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director.
Valerie Rachelle, who received rave reviews for her choreography in Performance Riverside’s productions of Oklahoma! and The Mikado, brings a vast wealth of experience and talent as director/choreographer of My Fair Lady.
My Fair Lady opens on Friday, January 27 and runs for two weekends.
Evening shows are January 27, 28, February 3 and 4 at 8:00 p.m.; and matinees are January 28, 29, February 4 and 5 at 2:00 p.m.
