A reminder to keep your family pets safe on New Year’s Eve.
Much like the 4th of July, New Year’s Eve celebrations and fireworks can fill the air with loud noises, pops, and bangs. Animals sometimes run in fear, becoming disoriented while trying to get away from the noise. Outdoor dogs have been known to jump high fences or dig holes to get out, while indoor dogs have been known to jump through windows.
Whether staying home or going out for the evening, secure your pet indoors in a quiet area that’s familiar and safe, and with plenty of fresh water. Include chew toys to help them relax.
Unsupervised dogs should not be tied up.
Dogs who are crate trained may feel safer in their crate. Cats will do best in a bathroom or laundry room with food and water and a litter box.
Sometimes turning on loud music or television will help drown out any outdoor noise.
Make sure your pet is wearing a collar and ID tag. Cats should wear a break-away or safety collar.
Help make it a safe and happy new year for you and your pets!
