Update: Etta James being treated in Riverside hospital

etta55551.jpg Musical performer Etta James is being treated in a Riverside hospital for a number of health complications which include a broken shoulder, leukemia, weight loss and complications from hepatitis C.

Several members of her family are in town for the holiday, and James is expected to return to her Riverside home as soon as Friday.

She was hospitalized this week with ongoing complications related to the recent disclosure that she is terminally ill, according to a source close to the family.

James has lived in the Woodcrest area of Riverside for several years, and has a custom-built studio inside her home where she has recorded all of her most-recent releases.

Etta James is most associated with the song “At Last”, which she reportedly wrote– a claim disputed by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren who declare the song is their work.

James has been in the news lately when it was disclosed that her health is quickly failing, and after a court ruling granting her husband control of her estate.   James’ husband is Artis Mills.  The couple married in 1969.

Six Grammy awards have been given to James and she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993;  the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001.

She decided to move to Riverside after deciding that the face-paced life in Hollywood was not her style.

Her home is on a modest street in a neighborhood in the Woodcrest area of Riverside.  It is landscaped with palm trees and holiday lights.

Etta James was born on January 25, 1938– and will turn 73 in 2012.
