On the evening of December 30, officers from the Perris Police Department were conducting a DUI/Safety checkpoint on Perris Boulevard and Commerce Drive in Perris.
After being directed to a secondary screening area for a possible Vehicle Code violation, one driver decided he would not stop and instead accelerated though the area where several officers and volunteers were located.
The driver appeared to aim his vehicle at an officer. The officer jumped out of the way and other officers located the driver still fleeing in his vehicle. Officers pursued the fleeing vehicle to the area of Wildwood Lane and Wilson Avenue.
The driver then rammed a motorcycle officer with the vehicle before fleeing on foot. The suspect was caught after a foot chase.
A firearm was also found after being discarded by the suspect.
Ivan Richard Clark III, age 22 of Lake Elsinore, was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, felon in possession of a firearm, and evading with wanton disregard for public safety among several other charges.
The motorcycle officer was treated and released at a nearby hospital.
Anyone having further information about this incident is asked to call the Perris Police Department at (951) 210-1000.
