The Riverside Police Department conducted a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday, October 28, as part of Riverside’s commitment to public safety.
This checkpoint was one of many that have been or will be conducted throughout the year in the City of Riverside. The location of Friday’s checkpoint was on Magnolia Avenue at Merced Drive.
The goal of the DUI Checkpoint was removing unlicensed or impaired drivers and to bring awareness to the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
RSO/CAL-ID was also on hand to assist with the identification of subjects that did not have a driver’s license or official identification. Several were processed at the checkpoint with their assistance to ensure a better means of identification in the future.
In addition to enforcing traffic laws the Department’s personnel assisted fifteen families with the proper installation of their child safety seats to ensure the safety of the little ones passing through the checkpoint.
* 1458 vehicles passed through the checkpoint.
* 1458 drivers were screened.
* 4 DUI suspects were arrested.
* 97 citations were issued.
* 28 vehicles were impounded.
* 27 unlicensed and suspended drivers were sent to court.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
