Riverside hosted the first La Sierra Grand Prix on Sunday May 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m..The races included kart racing, drifting demonstrations, and a tire changing competition.

Racers included council members, and members of the fire and police department.

Kart racing has been around since the 1960s and has long been regarded as the entry level to motor racing. The sport involves driving open-wheeled vehicles, usually around a circuit. The sport has been influential in the racing industry. Michael Andretti, Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Jeff Gordon, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. all began their racing careers at an early age in the competitive motorsport of kart racing.
